About Me

the long and short of it

I was introduced to yoga nearly 10 years ago in New York City; however, because of a mysterious elbow injury, I found that I was unable to practice regularly. This painful chronic elbow issue took me for quite a ride. I met and worked with many doctors and bodyworkers along the way. The orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, reiki masters all seemed to shrug their shoulders at me and my problem, unable to give me any solid answers. It was an incredibly difficult and frustrating journey.

A few years back, while working intensely with Dr. Cindy Butler (a wonderful chiropractor/personal trainer) I made some headway and found some peace with my elbow. That is when I became interested in becoming a bodyworker. Around the same time, my yoga practice intensified while studying at the Center for Yoga. I found a wonderful massage school in Culver City, the Institute of Psycho-Structural Balancing. I was attracted to IPSB because they really focus on the practitioner’s body mechanics. While there, I learned therapeutic and deep tissue massage techniques to help others with their physical imbalances while taking care of my own body, in particular my elbow.

Working as a massage therapist forced me to slow down with my yoga practice. My arms and hands became really precious, and I became fearful of injuring my tools. So I stopped going to the Level 2-3 Vinyasa Flow classes and started studying with Jonathan Emerson at Silver Lake Yoga. His wonderful beginners classes were perfect for me. My practice flourished and after about a year, my elbow was nearly pain free.

I found that my yoga practice was the best bodywork I had ever experienced.

I did my first yoga teacher training at Yogaworks in Santa Monica. My second teacher training was with Erich Schiffman at Sacred Movement. I have studied pre and post –natal yoga extensively with Juliette Kurth at Silver Lake Yoga, as well as with Shiva Rea at Sacred Movement/Exhale.

So, on a more personal note, I am a native to Southern California. My incredibly supportive parents are still happily married and living in Long Beach. In 1997, I graduated with a degree in Theater and Dance from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and then lived in New York City until 2002. I met my husband Ted shortly after returning to Los Angeles. We live in Silver Lake and hope to be here for a long time to come.
